Steel prices to fall in 2007

MEPS today suggest that flat product steel prices will be falling worldwide by end 2007. New capacity coming onstream, VAT changes and increased exports from China underly the predicted price weakness.

Nickel content in stainless steel declining [MEPS]

Soaring nickel prices [see daily price chart at] are driving buyers of austenitic stainless steels to substitute products. Although much of the substitution is taking place within stainless steel (especially in favour of type 430 ferritic and of 200-series grades), coated carbon steels are coming increasingly into consideration.
