China stainless steel output up 68 percent

The industry press today reports that China has now become the world's leading producer of stainless steel. According to the Chinese Special Steel Association, Chinese production of stainless steel increased by a massive 68 per cent in 2006 to reach 5.3 million tonnes.

Steel production forecast 2007

The latest world steel production forecast for 2007 suggests that global steel output will increase by 5-6% this year. UK-based consultants MEPS are forecasting 2007 crude steel production of 1307 million metric tonnes.

Production in the seven years of this millenium is especially notable. Since early 2000, the industry has witnessed an increase in steelmaking production volume of ~450 million tonnes.
